Abstract:

A branched polycarbonate resin which is obtained by using a branching agent comprising a tetrahydric phenol having a specific structure, such as $g(a), $g(a)'-dimethyl-$g(a),$g(a),$g(a)',$g(a)'-tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-p-xylene, has a branching agent content [branching agent/(dihydric phenol + chain terminator + branching agent) x 100] of 0.01 to 0.4 mol % and an intrinsic viscosity [$g(h)] of 0.5 to 0.6, and is substantially free from crosslinks. This resin has not only a reduced branching agent content but also sufficient melt properties such as a high value of melt tension. It has improved moldability in blow molding, etc., and gives a molding improved especially in appearance and color tone.
