Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain new 1-(pyrido[3,4-b]-1,4-oxazinyl-4-yl)-1H-indoles useful as treating agents for depression and anamnesis dysfunction characterized by cholinergic absence and adrenergic absence, e.g. Alzheimer's disease.
CONSTITUTION: The 1-(pyrido[3,4-b]-1,4-oxazinyl-4-yl)-1H-indoles are compds. of formula I (where R1 and R2 are H or a lower alkyl and R3 is H, a lower alkyl, halogen, nitro, amino, OH, benzyloxy, lower alkoxy, etc.), e.g. 1-(pyrido[3,4-b]-1,4-oxazin-4-yl)-1H-indol-5-ylmethylcarbamate. The compds. of the formula I are obtd. by cyclizing compds. of formula II in the presence of a strong base such as sodium hydride.
