To obtain the subject new compound having antimicrobial activity and catalytic activity, useful as an antimicrobial agent and a carboxylation catalyst.
This compound is shown by the formula (R1 and R1' are each H, an aryl or a lower alkyl; R2 is amino or ammonio; (m) is 2-10) such as 1-(4- benzylphenyl)-7-(t-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-3-[4-(t-butyldimethylsilyloxy)butyl]-3- heptanol. The compound of the formula is obtained by reacting a lower alkyl 3-(4-substituted phenyl) propionate with a Grignard reagent, deprotecting the obtained compound to give a hydroxyalkyl derivative, protecting the primary hydroxyl group of the reaction product in the presence of a base by using an acylating agent to give a diacyloxyalkyl derivative, subjecting the derivative to a ring formation reaction under acidic conditions, hydrolyzing the reaction product under alkali conditions, mesylating the resultant substance in the presence of a base, azidating the resulting substance to give an azide derivative and catalytically reducing the derivative in the presence of palladium/carbon.
