Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:2-Alkylamino-6-methoxypyridine of formula I (R is ethyl, n- propyl, iso-propyl).
EXAMPLE: 2-Ethylamino-6-methoxypyridine.
USE: A synthetic intermediate of medicines and agricultural chemicals. It is used as a starting compound of 0-4-isopropylphenyl N-methyl-N-(6-methoxy-2-pyridyl) thiocarbamate, an active ingredient of herbicides.
PREPARATION: A 2-substituted-6-halopyridine of formula II (X is Br, Cl; Y is alkylamino, alkoxy) is allowed to react with methanol in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide, when Y is alkylamino, or with an amine of the formula: R-NH2, when Y is alkoxy, to form the compound of formula I .
