Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject derivative having high plant-growth regulating activity, effective at a low rate of application and useful in the field of agricultural and biological chemistry by lactonizing the B-ring ketone of a 2- deoxybrassinosteroid such as thiasterone and typhasterol.
CONSTITUTION: The objective 2-deoxybrassinosteroid derivative expressed by formula (R is H or methyl) can be produced by dissolving (22R,23R,24 S)-3β-22,23-triacetoxy-5α-ergostan-6-one in methylene chloride, cooling the solution to 0°C, adding 30% hydrogen peroxide solution, reacting the components to obtain (22R,23R,24S)-3β-22,23-triacetoxy-B-homo-7-oxa-5α-ergostan-6-one, adding 1N NaOH-methanol solution, boiling the mixture for 3hr under refluxing, cooling to room temperature, adding 1N hydrochloric acid and stirring for 1hr, extracting the reaction liquid with ethyl acetate, concentrating the extracted liquid under reduced pressure and purifying the concentrated product by silica gel thin-layer chromatography.
