Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound which has an anti-protozoal activity and is especially effective for controlling coccidiums.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is a compound of formula I (wherein Ar' is thienyl, naphthalenyl or the like; r is H, a 1-6C alkyl or the like; r1 is cyano or the like; r2 and r3 are each H, a halo, trifluoromethyl or the like; and r4 is H, an aryl, 3-6C cycloalkyl or the like), an acid adduct, metal- or amine- substituted salt or stereoisometric form thereof. This compound is obtained by eliminating group E from an intermediate triazadione of formula II (wherein E is an electron-attractive group). This elimination is carried out, if required, in the presence of an acid at an elevated temperature. The compound of formula I is useful as a synthetic intermediate for a compound of formula III. The compound of formula III is useful for controlling a wide range of protozoa, e.g. rhizopodal Amoeba, mastigophoran Trichomonas, etc.
