Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R is halogen or lower alkyl).

EXAMPLE: 2',5'-Anhydro-2',5'-dideoxy-1-β-D-arabinofuranosyl-5-fluorouracil.

USE: Antitumor agent effective by the antimetabolic acivity.

PREPARATION: The uridine derivative of formula II (X is Cl or Br; Y is OH or formuloxy) or a mixture of the compounds of formula II, i.e. the compound of formula III (Y is OH) and the compound of formula IV (Y is formyloxy), is made to react in an alkaline aqueous medium (preferably containing a lower alkanol) for 1W20hr, preferably under refluxing at the boiling point.
