Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formulaI(R is -CH2-CO-CH3- or -CH2-CO-CH2-CH3.
USE: An improver for flavor and taste of tabacco. The compound shown by the formulaIhas more improved effect to provide flavor and taste than its racemic modification, and exhibits excellent effect by its small amount of effective application.
PROCESS: A β-ionone shown by the formula II or β-methylionone is converted by a fungus to a 2S-hydroxy-β(methyl)ionone shown by the formulaIII, which is isomerized in an alkali solvent to a 2S-hydroxy-α(methyl)ionone shown by the formula IV, which is subjected to ring formation under the same condition, to give a compound shown by the formulaI.
