EXAMPLE: 6-Chloro-3,3-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-7,7,7-trifluoro-hept-5-ene-2-one.
USE: Product is used for producing pyrethroid of formula IV (R2 is OH, known pyrethroid carbon residue) useful for insecticide and its intermediate, can be stored, distilled, and is resistant to hydrolysis.
PROCESS: 1,3-Dihalopropoxy derivative of formula II (Y is Br or Cl; R1 is 1-20C alkyl, aryl or 7-20C aralkyl) is reacted with a compound of formula III in the presence of Bronsted acid and at lest equal mole to that of the compound of formula II of water to obtain a compound of formula I for X=R=H.
