Abstract:

To provide a 4-hydroxytetrahydropyran derivative (general formula (6)) of a synthetic intermediate of a compound having a tetrahydropyran skeleton and useful as a liquid crystal composition, and to provide a method for producing the derivative.

The 4-hydroxytetrahydropyran derivative represented by general formula (6) is produced by reacting 5-halotetrahydropyran-4-ones with a phenyl Grignard reagent. (In the formula, R1, R2. R3, R4 and R5 are each independently hydrogen, 1-4C alkoxy or fluorine; R6 is 3-10C cycloalkyl which may be substituted; and Y2 is halogen).
