Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a ferritic stainless steel sheet excellent in rust resistance and workability by subjecting a slab of ferritic stainless steel with specific composition to hot rolling and annealing under respectively specified temp. conditions, applying cold rolling, and then applying bright annealing to the resulting steel sheet under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A slab of a ferritic stainless steel, which has a composition containing, by weight, 0.015-6.0% Al, <0.15% Si, 8-30% Cr, <5% Mo, 0.01-6.0% Ni, 0.05-1.00% Nb, <0.010% C, <0.015% N, <0.0020% S, <0.15% Mn, and <0.015% O and satisfying Nb≥8×(C+N) or further containing <1.0% Ti in the range satisfying Ti≥6×(C+N), is used. This slab is hot-rolled at <700°C finishing temp., annealed at 950-1050°C, and cold-rolled into a sheet. Subsequently, the steel sheet is bright-annealed in a furnace with nonoxidizing gas atmosphere, under the conditions of -40 to 65°C dew point in the furnace and 900-1100°C temp. By this method, the ferritic stainless steel sheet, having an Al oxide film containing oxides of Si, Nb, and Cr on the steel sheet surface and excellent in corrosion resistance, workability, and surface characteristic, can be produced.
