PURPOSE: To form an adsorbent and a catalyst by chemically bonding a metal compd. as a molecule contg. single metal atom on an inorg. oxide surface and homogeneously distributing the same into discrete bodies of the inorg. oxide.

CONSTITUTION: A polar solvent soln. is prepd. by adding the metal compd. which reacts reversibly with the inorg. oxide and contains at least Mg to a polar solvent, regulating the concn. and soln. pH of the metal compd. and further compounding a prescribed amt. of a complex forming agent with the mixture. The polar solvent soln. and the discrete bodies of the inorg. oxide are brought into contact with each other and this contact is maintained until the metal compd. uniformly reacts with the respective discrete bodies to effect an equil. reaction and thereafter, the inorg. oxide in which the reaction ends is separated from the soln.. The discrete bodies of the inorg. oxide in which the reaction ends are washed and dried, by which the catalyst support is obtd. Silica is adequate as the inorg. oxide.
