PURPOSE: An agricultural and horticultural germicide, containing a specific anilide compound as an active constituent, having a controlling effect on Piricularia oryzae, etc., and exhibiting a selective powerful germicidal effect particularly on germs resistant to chemicals.
CONSTITUTION: An agricultural and horticultural germicide containing anilide compounds of formula I [X and Y are halogen, lower alkenyl, lower cyanoalkenyl, lower alkynyl etc.; Z is H, F or -OR5 (R5 is lower alkenyl or lower alkynyl, etc.); R1 is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl or lower cycloalkyl, etc.] some of which are well-known and known to have the antipyretic and analgesic action, e.g. N-(3,5-dimethyl-4-nitroxyphenyl)crotonic acid amide, as an active constituent. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting an aniline derivative of formula II with a carboxylic acid of formula III. The above- mentioned compound of formula I is useful for Sphaerotheca fulginea of cucumbers and Vebturia inaequalis of apples, etc. exhibiting the resistance to thiophanate germicides, etc.
