To provide an air cleaning apparatus capable of rapidly adsorbing and removing an organic chemical substance in air to efficiently perform the oxidative decomposition of the organic chemical substance, and an air cleaning method.
The air cleaning apparatus 1 includes a first electrode 21 and a second electrode 22 arranged in a flow channel 50 allowing air to flow, a power supply portion 30 for applying voltage between the first and second electrodes 21 and 22, the photocatalyst module 10 arranged between the first and second electrodes 21 and 22 or in a vicinity of them and the ozone decomposition catalyst module 40 arranged on the downstream side of the second electrode 22. The photocatalyst module 10 is formed by getting a photocatalytic reaction portion and an adsorbent for adsorbing the organic chemical substance carried by the surface of a substrate and has the photocatalyst adjacent adsorption portion provided so as to be adjacent to the photocatalytic reaction portion, while the ozone decomposition catalyst module 40 has an ozone decomposition catalytic reaction portion on the surface of the substrate.
