Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for suppressing reduction of efficiency when converting internal energy of a refrigerant in an expansion process into mechanical energy and converting the mechanical energy into the internal energy of the refrigerant again.SOLUTION: The air conditioner comprises a refrigerant circuit which includes a main compressor, a condenser, a restrictor and an evaporator and in which these components are connected via refrigerant piping. The air conditioner comprises: a centrifugal expander which is connected to the refrigerant circuit and rotated by passing a refrigerant therethrough and reduces pressure of the refrigerant; a power transmission section to which rotation of the centrifugal expander is transmitted; and a centrifugal compressor which is connected to the refrigerant circuit and rotated by transmitting the rotation of the centrifugal expander through the power transmission section thereto and compresses the refrigerant. The power transmission section includes a gear shift mechanism for changing a rotation speed of the centrifugal compressor with respect to a rotation speed of the centrifugal expander.
