To provide an optical communication system for an air vehicle, using a light source which has superior temperature characteristics, and which stably operates at a low power.
The optical communication system for the air vehicle comprises a communication equipment 11 connected to communications equipment 15 via an optical fiber 19. Here, the equipment 11 is provided corresponding to an apparatus 12 and has a signal control circuit 13 and a surface-emitting semiconductor laser/photodetector (14). The equipment 15 is provided corresponding to an apparatus 16 and has a signal control circuit 17 and a surface-emitting semiconductor laser/photodetector (18). As the surface-emitting semiconductor lasers of the laser/photodetectors (14), (18), long wavelength band surface- emitting semiconductor lasers are used.
