PURPOSE: To obtain anti-icing fluids having protective anti-icing ability and suitable for ground treatment of aircraft by increasing viscosity of the glycol- based solution with the specified quantity of gel-forming carrageenan.
CONSTITUTION: The glycol-based solution is prepared containing one and more glycol of at least 40 wt.% selected from ethylene-glycol, diethyleneglycol, propyleneglycol. Then the aircraft anti-icing is produced by adding less than 5 wt.% gel-forming carrageenan to the glycol-based solution. As carrageenan, inthercarrageenan is preferable and kappacarrageenan is also suitable. Film coating effective to anti-icing is formed by spraying the anti-icing liquid on an aircraft and this coating is readily flown off when exposed to wind shear during the flight of the aircraft.
