To provide an Al-Zn-Mg based damping alloy whose damping properties and strength are less adversely influenced even being held at high temperature for a long time, and exhibiting stable characteristics.
The damping alloy has a composition comprising, by mass, 8 to 42% zinc (Zn), 0.3 to 3% magnesium (Mg), and the balance aluminum (Al) with inevitable impurities as 100 mass% total. The damping alloy having the alloy composition has excellent damping properties and high strength, and whose initial damping properties and strength are hard to be deteriorated even after being held at high temperature for a long time since, by forming a composition essentially consisting of Al and having suitable content of Zn and Mg, a fine metallic structure can be obtained, and the area of boundaries sufficient for exhibiting damping properties and strength can be secured even if it is exposed to high temperature for a long time.
