PURPOSE: To obtain a new α-cyclopropylcarboxylic acid derivative exhibiting high fungicidal effect on plant pathogenic fungi and useful for pest controlling agents, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R1 is H, a halogen, an alkyl, hydroxy, an alkoxy, an alkenyloxy, an alkynyloxy, cyano, nitro, phenyl, phenoxy or benzyloxy; (n) is 1-5; R2 is H or an alkyl; R3 is H, an alkyl or an aralkyl; X is C=N-OR4 (R4 is H or an alkyl), CH-OH or C=O; R5 and R6 each is H, a halogen, an alkyl or a polyhaloalkyl], e.g. methyl 2-(1-phenylcyclopropyl) 2-hydroxyacetate. Furthermore, the compound of formula I is obtained by reacting, e.g. a 3-aryl-2-hydroxy-3-butenenoic acid derivative of formula II with a carbenoid reagent prepared from an iodoalkane derivative of formula II and zinc diethyl.
