PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy capable of producing a high strength and high reliability composite material by imparting a compsn. contg. Cu and Si besides Al accompanied by impurities.
CONSTITUTION: This Al alloy is the matrix alloy of an Al-based composite material contg. aluminum borate whiskers as a reinforcing material, contains Cu and Si besides Al accompanied by impurities and consists of, by weight, 4.6-5.3% Cu, 0.15-0.35% Si, 0.1-0.3% Ti, 0.2-0.4% Mn and the balance Al accompanied by impurities or 0.8-1.3% Cu, 11-13% Si, ≤0.8% Fe, 0.8-1.5% Ni and the balance Al accompanied by impurities. This Al alloy can improve macro-defects and low strength-peculiar to an Al-based composite material contg. aluminum borate whiskers as a reinforcing material.
