To provide an amphoteric, amphiphatic surface-treatment agent which can impart excellent stain resistance and antifogging property to a substrate to be treated having a hard surface and can impart excellent quick drying property and flexibility when applied to a substrate having a soft surface.
The amphoteric, amphiphatic surface-treatment agent comprises a Si-containing copolymer comprising, as essential components, (A) a silicone macromer represented by structural formula (1), (B) a tertiary amine or quaternary ammonium group-containing vinyl monomer and (C) an anionic vinyl monomer, where (A) is contained in an amount ranging from 1 to 60 mass%, and the ratio of (B) to (C) ranges from 10 to 90 mol% in terms of B/(B+C). In structural formula (1), R1 is hydrogen or a methyl group; R2 is a 1-6C, divalent aliphatic group which can bear an ether group; R3 is a 1-30C aliphatic group, an aromatic group or a hydroxyl group; h is a number of 0, 1 or 2; and j is a number of 0-500.
