Title:
ANTI-FOGGING PLASTIC LENS AND ITS ANTI-FOGGING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09230108
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To prevent the fogging of a plastic lens surface by the condensed water of moisture and/or water drops by providing this plastic lens surface with a surface layer contg. transparent photocatalytic titanium oxide particles.

The layer contg. photocatalysts is formed on the surface of a base material. The plastic lens surface is made highly hydrophilic according to the photoexcitation of the photocatalysts by having such surface structure. As a result, even if the moisture of the atmosphere condenses and adheres to the plastic lens surface, the condensed moisture does not grow to the form of water drops and turns to the form of a uniform water film. The fogging of the plastic surface by the condensed water of moisture and/or the water drops is prevented. When the surface layer consists of the photocatalysts alone, the photocatalysts are preferably an oxide. The oxide exhibits hydrophilicity in the state that the contaminants in the environment are not adsorbed and, therefore, the oxide is liable to exhibit the hydrophilicity and is capable of forming the uniform water film by expelling these contaminants by the photoexcitation and forming the absorbed water layer. The contaminants are expelled and the water films are formed by the effect of the photocatalytic titanium oxide incorporated into the surface layer exclusive of the inorg. oxide.
