PURPOSE: To obtain new monomeric and polymeric compds. useful as antimicrobial agents having low toxicity to a plant used for controlling plant pathogenic microorganisms, especially plant pathogens belonging to Xanthomonas Dowson.
CONSTITUTION: The monomeric compd. is a monomer of formula I, e.g. 11-(Npiperidyl)undecane1-(p-toluene)sulfonate and the polymeric compd. is a polymer of formula II. In the formulae I, II, A is (CH2)p, (CH2)q-Y-(CH2)r, etc.; Y is O or S; (p) is 2-8; (q) and (r) are 1-8; R1 is (CH2)m or a group of formula III or IV; (m) is 7-24; (n) is 1-10; R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, substd. aryl, etc., R has ≤20 carbon atoms; and (t) is 1-100. The monomer of formula I is obtd. by allowing a compd. of the formula XR1OH (where X is X' or OSO2R and X' is Cl or Br) to react with a compd. of formula V in a molar ratio of 1:>1 and allowing the resultant compd. of formula VI to react with a compd. of the formula X'SO2R. The polymer of the formula II is obtd. by polymerizing the monomer of formula I. The monomer and polymer can be used as antimicrobial agents for various materials such as wood, paint and adhesives.
