Title:
ANTIVIRAL PLANT HAVING ANTISENSE VIRUS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09168383
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a means for forming a virus-resistant plant and to obtain both a plant transformant procaryotic plasmid vector for transporting a plant expressed RNA and a plant cell transformed with the vector by transforming a plant so as to contain a plant expressed extraneous gene for indicating synthesis of an RNA complementary to a virus mRNA.

This method comprises producing a plant cell containing an antiviral plant having an antisense RNA (aRNA) complementary to an mRNA of the objective plant virus. A method and a DNA molecule useful for producing an aRNA-containing plant cell is used. An aRNA gene is constructed and the aRNA gene is incorporated into a plant cell. When the cell is compared with a cell containing no aRNA, the cell has considerable resistance to infection with the objective virus.
