To provide an apparatus for activating a hydrogen storage alloy, which takes the cost for activating the hydrogen storage alloy into account, and to provide a method for activating the hydrogen storage alloy.
The activation apparatus 10 includes a hydrogen tank 16 filled with a hydrogen gas having 99.9999% (6N) of purity and a hydrogen tank 18 filled with a hydrogen gas having 99% (2N) of purity. When a storage tank 14 is connected to the activation apparatus 10, the storage tank 14 is deaerated to become vacuum, and subsequently the hydrogen gas in the hydrogen tank 16 is supplied into the storage tank 14 at a high pressure. When a temperature of the hydrogen storage alloy 12 has reached a predetermined temperature or higher, a switch valve 20 is switched and the hydrogen gas in the hydrogen tank 18 is supplied into the storage tank 14 at a high pressure.
