To provide an apparatus for automatically covering an umbrella with a bag and an umbrella bag appropriate for the apparatus wherein the umbrella bag can be reliably put on an umbrella only by an operation that a person inserts the umbrella into an umbrella insertion part.

A regulating plate 30 with its surface facing toward an insertion path 2 is provided on a lower side of an umbrella insertion port 20 provided on a case 1, numerous umbrella bags 5 passing through an upper single-layered part 50 are hung on a hanging bar 31 provided on a rear of the regulating plate 30, and the umbrella bags 5 are pressed against the regulating plate 30 with predetermined elastic force by a pressing member. When a swing plate 41 is pressed in a first step to have it swung slightly downward, a thin guide plate 42a of an opening lever 42 in contact with the single-layered part 50 of an umbrella bag 5 by spring force makes the bag 5 open, and in a second step, the swing plate 41 is further swung together with a swing base 40 thereby inserting an umbrella (a) into the umbrella bag 5 and automatically putting the umbrella bag on the umbrella (a).
