This apparatus 1 for decomposing the plastic is the one equipped with a decomposition means 4 for decomposing the plastic produced from raw materials comprising an organic acid and a polyhydric alcohol with a supercritical or subcritical fluid, a supply means 5 for continuously supplying the supercritical or subcritical fluid to the decomposition means 4 and a means 7 for continuously taking out the supercritical or subcritical fluid containing a decomposition product from the decomposition means 4 according to the supply of the supercritical or subcritical fluid to the decomposition means 4. The apparatus for decomposing the plastic is also equipped with a retention time adjustment means for adjusting the retention time of the supercritical or subcritical fluid in the decomposition means 4.
