PURPOSE: To positively detect the lowering of a vacuum degree and to enable the detection at a point in time while the vacuum degree is still high, by detecting discharge light at the time of discharge in a first vacuum gap with the light receiving part provided on the outer periphery of a glass cylindrical body.
CONSTITUTION: When the vacuum degree of a vacuum interrupter 1 interposed in a system electric path is normal, no discharge is generated between first and second vacuum gaps l1, l2 and, therefore, no signal is sent out from a detector 47. When the vacuum degree is lowered, discharge is started in the first vacuum gap l1 between an intermediate shield 2 and a fixed electrode rod 4a. The fluorescent light of an insulating cylinder 43a (made of glass) by said discharge or the direct light of the discharge is received by a light receiving part 45a. The light receiving part 45a supplies the received light to the terminal A of the detector 47 through an optical fiber 46a. When the received light is supplied to the terminal A, the detector 47 supplies a signal to a cut-off order part 48. The instruction part 48 issues an alarm when the signal is supplied from the detector 47 to use the same in the judgement of the lowering of the vacuum degree.
