To provide an apparatus and a method for machining an inside diameter which can accurately machine the inside diameter of a ferrule even if a lapping wire has been worn.
The apparatus for machining the inside diameter comprises the lapping wire 14 tightly arranged over two separate points, a means 21 which holds the ferrule 24 and makes the ferrule 24 rotate about the lapping wire 14, into which the lapping wire 14 is inserted, a means 15 for relatively move the rotating means 21 along the lapping wire 14, a means 18 which relatively vibrates the ferrule 24 along the lapping wire 14 with a minute amplitude in addition to relative movement by means of the means 15, and a means 25 for shifting the rotating means 21 in the direction crossing the lapping wire 14.
