To provide an apparatus for producing hydrogen of a solid high polymer type water electrolysis process which does not require a space for previously storing spare cylinders, a space for vehicles for carrying in of the cylinders, etc., and a running method for the same.
Wiring is so installed as to pass electric current only to the electrolytic cell B by turning off a switch D and turning on a switch E by assuming the case the electrolytic cell A of the two parallely installed electrolytic cells A and B goes out of order and likewise an electrolysis is performed by the specified electric current of 500 A. In such a case, the electrolysis is eventually performed at electric current density of 2 A/cm2 in the electrolytic cell B. In such a case, the average voltage of the respective cells of the electrolytic cell B is 1.79 V and the electric current efficiency is 96% and therefore the electric power consumption unit is 4.46 kWh/Nm3. The restoration of the electrolytic cell A is performed and thereafter the two electrolytic cells A and B are loaded with DC voltage in parallel in the same manner as in Example 1.
