To provide a method for forming a coating film excellent in hiding properties of a sealer, chipping resistance and water resistance with no defective coating films such as a sagging and foaming when coating inside plates in the line painting for automotive bodies.
A method for forming a coating film of an aqueous coating material is to use the following aqueous coating material and to apply coating on a substance to be coated under the conditions of; (1) a solid content when coating is 45-70 weight %, (2) the aqueous coating material is adjusted so that the viscosity of aqueous coating material at 20°C is 50-90 seconds in a Ford cup #4, (3) a coating booth temperature is 15-40°C, and (4) a coating booth humidity is 60-90%. The aqueous coating material contains a hydroxyl group-containing resin (A), a curing agent (B) which is a brock polyisocyanate compound and/or a melamine resin, and a flaky pigment (C).
