PURPOSE: To obtain the compositions of either an aqueous solution or a dispersion type containing no solvent at all by dispersing a polymeric fat acid polyamide into an aqueous solution containing alkylakanolamine which forms a salt with the acid radical of polyamide.
CONSTITUTION: This aqueous composition is prepared by dispersing a thermoplastic polymeric fat acid polyamide having an acid value of ≥ about 8 as well as higher than the amine value into an aqueous solution containing alkylalkanolamine which forms a salt with the acid group of the polyamide at an azeotropic level. The dialkylalkanolamines to be used include those shown in the formula, wherein R represents 1-6C alkyl and Alk represents 2-6C alkylene. Preferably, however, R is 1-3C alkyl such as methyl, ethyl and propyl for example, and the alkylene is ethylene or propylene. Preferable dialkylalkanolamine is dimethylethanolamine and diethylethanolamine.
