To provide an improved dispersion of a urethane group-containing hydroxyl functional polyester which can be produced easily by using a minimum amount of usually inexpensive hydrophilizing agent and isocyanate ingredient, and gives a coating which is relatively stable for a long period of time and, after being cured, shows characteristics with good balance with respect to its hardness/elasticity, adhesiveness, solvent resistance and optical characteristics.
The dispersion of the urethane group-containing hydroxy functional polyester comprises (a) 87.0 to 95 mass% of a hydroxy functional polyester having an average hydroxy functional value of more than 2, (b) 1 to 2.4 mass% of a di-, tri-, and/or mono-hydroxycarboxylic acid, a hydroxysulfonic acid, an aminosulfonic acid and/or an aminocarboxylic acid, (c) 4 to 10.6 mass% of a polyisocyanate having two or more functional groups and (d) 0 to 3 mass% of other ingredients (total proportions of the ingredients (a) to (d): 100%), in which at least 50% of acid groups introduced from the ingredient (b) is in the form of a salt.
