To provide an aromatic polyamide wherein the dispersibility of carbon nanotubes is greatly improved and mechanical properties such as tensile strength and tensile modulus are improved as much as possible, and a fiber made of the same.

The aromatic polyamide wherein the carbon nanotubes are dispersed is obtained by subjecting an aromatic diamine and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid derivative to polycondensation in an organic solvent and subsequently neutralizing hydrogen chloride produced as a by-product in the aromatic polyamide solution with an inorganic alkali, wherein carbon nanotubes are fixed onto the surface of the inorganic alkali.
