Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate restarting after interruption by penetrating a furnace cover adjoining to a main electrode and in a freely raising/lowering manner providing a starting electrode, and supplying power between the main electrode and the starting electrode upon starting.
SOLUTION: A graphite main electrode 1c is inserted in a freely raising/lowering manner penetrating a furnace cover 1b, and a lower end of the main electrode is immersed in a melting slag layer 1e. A starting electrode 1d is provided in a freely raising/lowering manner adjoining to the main electrode 1c penetrating the furnace cover 1b. A starting electrode 1d is preferable to be provided so as to penetrate an exhaust hole 1h provided in the furnace cover 1b. The starting electrode 1d is located at a higher position as indicated by a solid line upon ordinary operation to prevent the lower end to obscure exhaustion. Upon starting a voltage/current value of a power supply 2 is limited, and a switch 8 is turned on, and the strating electrode 1d is lowered and is brought into contact with scrap 9. Hereby, an arc is generated between the starting electrode and the main electrode 1c whereby a current I1 flows through a wiring 7a, and hence the melting slag layer 1e is remelted. When the melting slag layer 1 becomes a predetermined temperature, the starting electrode 1d is lifted.
