Title:
ASPHALT PAVING MATERIAL FOR COLD LAYING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3158250
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an asphalt paving material capable of cold laying for forming an asphalt pavement, advantageous in environmental protection, capable of developing sufficient strengths just after laying, and storable for a long term by mixing a novel aggregate with asphalt.
SOLUTION: A novel aggregate is mixed with hot asphalt and further mixed with an asphalt-compatible difficultly volatile oil which causes the hot asphalt adhering to the surfaces of the aggregate particles to swell to such an extent that the hot asphalt deforms and bonds the aggregate particles to each other only when the hot asphalt is strongly pressed at ordinary temperature. Because the asphalt is kept in a swollen state even at ordinary temperature, it is not solidified at ordinary temperature and remains unchanged. When it is pressed strongly at ordinary temperature, it forms a tough mass. This material emits no oil vapor because of the difficult volatility of the oil used.
