To provide an assembling method for a record medium separating member and a device using a separating member, preventing dislocation of a separating member in the case of a record medium jam without increase in number of parts and in assembling man-hours in a device adapted to press the record medium separating member to a roller, thereby preventing the record medium from winding round the roller.

An image forming apparatus includes: a rotating shaft integrated with the separating member by inserting a coil part of a coiled spring; and a bearing, one end of which is opened to form a narrow part, thereby turning the rotating shaft at a predetermined angle to the record member separating position and inserting and removing the same. The apparatus is provided with a preliminary placing part for placing one end of the coiled spring and a spring hook part for reducing the diameter of the coiled spring more than the preliminary placing part when one end of the coiled spring is hooked are provided. In the apparatus, with one end of the coiled spring placed on the preliminary placing part, the rotating shaft is inserted in the bearing, and then one end of the coiled spring is moved to the spring hook part so that the separating member is assembled.
