To provide a shoe equipped with retractable spikes which is useful at playing golf.
A shoe upper and an outsole housing 11 connected to the shoe upper are provided. The outsole housing 11 includes a bottom having a plurality of spike openings 16. Rear and front spike plates 21, 22 are provided in the outsole housing 11 to mount a plurality of spikes 23. These spikes 23 move between a use position wherein the spikes project through the spike openings 16, and a spike-retracted position. A spring body 28 engages the rear and front plates 21, 22 to urge the plates and spikes 23 upwardly into the spike-retracted position located above. A manually-actuated slide 30 overlies the rear and front plates 21, 22 to move the plates 21, 22 between the spike-retracted position and the use position of the spikes 23.
