Title:
ATRIAL FIBRILLATION DETECTION USING SPO2
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2007289694
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a method and system for screening for atrial fibrillation (AFIB) simply, without requiring electrodes or additional sensors.

This method and system includes a process of detecting the AFIB in a patient by monitoring a blood oxygen saturation level over a period of time. The method and system produces plethysmographic waveforms 30, 300 and 550 from the monitored blood oxygen saturation level, analyzes the plethysmographic waveforms 30, 300 and 550 and detected intervals 312 and 314, and determines whether the patient is in atrial fibrillation. The method and system is preferably implemented in a software application, and may be configured to report about the current state of the AFIB and a current trend to a user.
