Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an austenitic stainless steel having superior hot workability as well as superior corrosion resistance by reducing the amount of Mn contained as an impurity in an austenitic stainless steel contg. N and by adjusting the amounts of N and S.

CONSTITUTION: The composition of an austenitic stainless steel contg. N is composed of, by weight, <0.08% C, <1% Si, <0.04% P, <0.003% S, 6W15% Ni, 16W26% Cr, 0.02W0.15% N and the balance Fe with accompanying impurities including ≤0.2% Mn. To the steel may be added 0.5W4% Mo or <0.05% Ca and/ or <0.05% Mg.
