Title:
AUTOMATIC FOLLOWING UP TRAVEL SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3501973
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic following up travel system capable of allowing a vehicle to start and stop while maintaining an inter-vehicle distance at a fixed distance, especially when the vehicle starts and stops convoy traveling on a slope.
SOLUTION: The travel ECU of a leading vehicle instructs following vehicles to the effect that convoy traveling is performed (step Sa5), and the travel ECUs of the following vehicles decide the acceptance/rejection of self-vehicle traveling on the basis of the instruction from the leading vehicle (step Sb3), also control self-vehicle operation so as to maintain an inter-vehicle distance to the other vehicle located just before themselves at an almost fixed distance (step Sb4) and further transmit travel acceptance/rejection decision results to the leading vehicle (step Sb5) when convoy traveling is started. When all of the following vehicles transmit their decisions as travelable, the travel ECU of the leading vehicle instruct all of the following vehicles to release parking locks (step Sb7), and the travel ECUs of the following vehicles release the parking locks on the basis of the instruction from the leading vehicle (step Sb6) and thereafter, start following the leading vehicle.
