In an engine stop process, when an automatic stop condition is found satisfied ('YES' in Step 134) and no vehicle speed history is found after a start-up of the engine 2 ('NO' in Step 136), if a shift signal SHFT is found in a P position ('YES' in Step 140), an economical running control mode ECMOD is switched to an engine stop position (economical running execution position) to execute an engine stop by economical running (Step 142). If the shift signal SHFT is found out of the P position ('NO' in Step 140), the economical running control mode ECMOD is switched to an engine run position (economical running prohibition position) to prohibit an engine stop by economical running, and the engine 2 is left operated (Step 144).
