To provide an automatic traveling-direction determination method for a railway rolling stock that achieves highly accurate automatic determination of a traveling direction of a railway rolling stock, only with equipment on the rolling stock side without requiring ground facilities or the like.
The automatic traveling-direction determination method for a railway rolling stock is used for determining a traveling direction of a railway rolling stock traveling reciprocatingly on a prescribed track. The traveling direction of the railway rolling stock is automatically determined from an output direction (plus or minus) by a front/rear G sensor installed in the railway rolling stock (for example, a plus output direction of acceleration by the sensor is detected at time T4 so as to determine that the traveling direction is "upbound" at time T5). Consequently, it is possible to highly accurately and automatically determine the traveling direction of the railway rolling stock, only with the equipment on the rolling stock side serving as an arrangement of the front/rear G sensor without requiring ground facilities or the like.
