To reduce a possibility of lost while reducing a processing load.SOLUTION: An autonomous moving apparatus 100 is an autonomous moving apparatus 100 which creates a map using an image and estimates an own position to move, and includes: an imaging unit 31 that picks up images in sequence; and a control unit 10. The control unit 10 stores, in a storing unit 20, information on images in which thinned-out images of a predetermined thinning-out number are thinned out from the images picked up in sequence, extracts feature points included in the image picked up by the imaging unit 31, obtains the correspondence between the feature points included in the information on the image stored in the storing unit 20 and the feature points extracted from the picked-up image to estimate the own position, and adjusts the thinning-out number in accordance with the number of corresponding feature points that is the number of corresponding feature points obtained when the estimation is performed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
