To provide an axial-flow pump having high pump efficiency and scarcely breaking particle components in blood.
The axial-flow pump comprises a housing 1, the impeller housed in the housing and a drive mechanism D for rotatively driving the impeller. The pump axially takes liquid in the housing 1 and transfers the liquid under pressure through rotation of the impeller in a direction of its rotation axis. In this pump, the impeller is rotatably supported by a fixed shaft 4 of stationary blade section 2 arranged on a downstream side of the impeller. The impeller has a support structure in which it is rotatively supported in a floating condition on the fixed shaft 4 by lubricating liquid flowing from the downstream side to an upstream side with respect to the pressure transfer direction through a clearance formed between the fixed shaft 4 and the impeller.
