To provide a ball spline preventing balls from riding on the shoulder part of a retainer and suppressing the wear of the shoulder part of the retainer.
The ball spline is provided with: a shaft on which spline tracks are provided; and a ball spline outer cylinder which is suitable for the shaft via balls 16. The ball spline outer cylinder includes: an outer cylinder body 17 which has spline tracks that form main paths corresponding to the spline tracks on the shaft; and a retainer 18 which is suitable for the inside circumference of the outer cylinder body 17 to form return paths which consist of unloaded tracks parallel to the main paths and connection portions that communicate the main paths 20 with the unloaded tracks, between itself and the outer cylinder body 17. In this ball spline, inclined grooves 24 which are continuous to the ends of the main paths 20 and which get larger gradually in diameter and are bent gradually in the axial direction so as to be connected to the unloaded tracks of the retainer 18, are formed on the inside circumferential surface of the outer cylinder body 17.
