A bank bill handling apparatus 10 comprises: a discrimination section 31 that discriminates at least kinds of bank bills which are conveyed from a conveyance section 30, and reads numbers of the bank bills; and a control section 50 that controls the conveyance section 30. The control section 50 is adapted so as, when a conveyance error of bank bills occurs in the conveyance section 30, to execute an identical numbered bank bill receiving mode, in which a bank bill having the identical number only can be received in the bank bill handling apparatus 10 based on the number of the bank bill relevant to the conveyance error.
