To provide a paper money discrimination apparatus capable of conducting maintenance, including the removal of a jammed paper money, the removal of dust on the surfaces of sensors in a short period of time; and of defining the discrimination of denominations; and of accurately separating the paper moneys into each paper money accommodation section.

The paper money discrimination apparatus comprises: a paper money discriminant section connected to a paper money carrying device, receiving the carried paper moneys, and having the openable side of the discrimination section for discriminating the paper moneys; an attitude conversion passage section conducting attitude conversion after discriminating the paper moneys; and a passage switching section separating the paper moneys into a denominations-specific paper money accommodation device and an non-discriminated paper money accommodation section, and provided with openable side carrying section at its side. The paper money discriminant section, the attitude conversion passage section, and the passage switching section are integrally configured and are mountable in a paper money safe.
