To obtain the subject basal paper high in metallic luster, excellent in adhesiveness, flexibility and appealability, and useful for labels etc., by providing a paper substrate with a specific electron beam-cured resin layer.
This basal paper for metallization is obtained by providing a paper substrate with an electron beam-cured resin layer on one side of the basal paper to be provided with a metallized layer. The resin layer is formed by irradiating a coating composition with electron beams to effect curing the composition. The coating composition comprises an electron beam-curable urethane acrylate oligomer and an electron beam-curable monomer in the weight ratio of (30:70) to (70:30). The urethane acrylate oligomer has the following characteristics: (i) acid value is ≤1mgKOH/g, and (ii) acryl equivalent defined by the formula: acryl equivalent=A/B (A is number-average molecular weight in terms of polystyrene determined by gel permeation chromatography; B is the number of acryloyl groups in one oligomer molecule) is 400-4000; and the electron beam-curable monomer is at least one kind selected from (iii) bifunctional acrylates except silicone acrylate and (iv) acryloyl morpholine etc., as a monofunctional monomer.
