PURPOSE: To reduce the capacity of a base journal by sampling only the address of an after update record on a medium restoring journal in a base journal.

CONSTITUTION: The update processing part 11 of a data base management system 1 updates a record in a data base 2. An after update record acquiring means 121 of a journal output part 12 acquires the after update record from the update processing part 11, and an after update record output means 122 outputs an acquired after update record to the medium restoring journal 3, and an after update record address acquiring means 123 acquires the address of the after update record in the medium restoring journal 3, and an address record output means 124 outputs the record of address of an acquired after update record to the base journal 4.
